Re: I'm thinking supply chain.
i think they should upgrade to use bigData techinques. it will only help them get better and good at their work, making better customer relationships and providing quick and better maintainance services. Adapting to bigData is worth the price  anufacturing team will pay.

Re: I'm thinking supply chain.
But @kiran are the stories of manufacturing benefits prominent enough for companies to really get excited and invest? Or is big data just not that big a change for manufacturing to regard it as such? They've always been dealing with large data... so for them scaling up isn't such a big issue.

Re: I'm thinking supply chain.
Yes, i see bigData helping out manufacturers in the supply chain, from the person who distribute the raw material to the retailers, all can benefit from bigData. BigData will help them with the economies of scale and knowing what the customer wants exactly. also with so many trends and pattern identification we can hope to see what competitors are doing and how we can gain competitive advantage

Re: I'm thinking supply chain.
@legalcio add in to that sensors and parts with their own ip addresses and suddenly there's a massive and dynamic link from usage, back through supply chain and into manufacturing. Allowing even leaner and smarter development.

I'm thinking supply chain.
I could see Big Data having tremendous value in supply chain analysis, particularly in industries like planes, boats, trains and automobiles, where you could potentially have 20,000 suppliers scattered across the globe.  Everything from weather, route planning, cargo weight, etc., could be applied to a lean supply chain model.
